Hello All
I'm back.. and I'm on a mission...
I will be 40 in about 6 weeks. Yup - 40 years old.. I hear that things will start falling off, stop working, etc. I think it has already begun.
I have been secretly planning several special events to celebrate this special year... why not throw a party for yourself!!! or two, or three...
In honour of this auspicious occasion... I want YOU to be a part of the excitement!!
EVENT: DO A MARATHON - or at least a part of a marathon
A short 3 weeks after my BIG day... the Manitoba Marathon will be holding its annual track meet for the 30th time..
Now - I have actually been in marathons before - I still have nightmares about one marathon... but - my first was the annual father's day romp in south Winnipeg. I still remember crossing that finish line.. it was really really fun! The start line was even more exciting! (albeit at 7am..)
Okay - the point is... I want to have a group of people to do the marathon with me... the 10 km walk. (I'm not ready for the big time yet - I'm getting those bad flashbacks again..)
10k is actually 1/4 of a marathon (42km is a full course).
You feel like a part of the excitement - the snap of the gun at the starting line to crossing the finish line and making it "beep" with your chip attached to your shoe. Running into University Stadium, pretending you are completing 42 km and wining a gold medal... or whatever - it's still neat!!
Now - you don't have to walk - you can run, jog, whatever your heart desires, at this point, I am walking. I've completed the 10 k course in 90 minutes - but I'm aiming for between 90 and 105 minutes.
You can bring along anyone you want...
The marathon entry fees for the 10k walk is $25 adults/$15 youths. (until April 28) ($35/$20 after)
Any takers????
Let me know!!
I'd love to have a great big group of friends and family - especially all of you who are also turning the big 4-0 this year...
There will be group training sessions- Saturday or Sunday -and even road trips to visit those out of towners for a workout in their neck of the woods!!
I will post a 10 week training program - it is actually really manageable... you will not have to quit work or hire a trainer...
It is all in the spirit to keep moving - to make the effort to live healthy lives and that includes great company and support of friends and family!!
Take care and Keep Moving!!!

First Entry for 10KC
Welcome to 10KC.
This is the first Blog entry so bear with me, I'm learning as I go.
The first walk for this season will begin on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 830 am at St Vital Mall. Don't forget your running shoes and some comfortable clothes. Be prepared to walk for an hour.
One completion of the mall is approximately 1km - so we can see how far we go in an hour.
Remember - it's not about the distance as it is to get moving!!!
Sunday mornings are the longer walks!! (90 minutes or so)
I look forward to meeting all the new faces that want to get moving!
As my business advisor once told me "if it was easy - everyone would do it".
See you on the weekend!
